Core values: corporate wall art for Blue Diamond Industries
Regular client Blue Diamond Industries contracted yesIsaid to create an installation of six panels explaining and illustrating the company’s core values. They specified that each panel should be 24″x36″, and that each should use humanizing stock photography without appearing too corporate or generic. They would follow the colorful, geometric company brand, and appeal to a blue-collar audience. Blue Diamond provided the final copy before I began working on the project.
We opted to produce these as dye-sublimation printed aluminum panels with silver standoff mounts in the four corners.
First drafts
In this first round of designs, I used the concept of hands as a throughline connecting the panels. I picked stock photos that were in black and white originally, and I overlayed them with a deep blue photo filter from their brand guidelines. Using vivid orange, rounded hexagons that resemble a cross-section of some of the company’s conduit products, I embedded a numerical sequence across the first five panels, returning to ‘one’ in the final, summary panel.

The team at Blue Diamond requested that the photos be colorized within the bounds of the orange hexagons. At first I was a bit thrown, since the photos were all black-and-white originally; Photoshop saved the day, however, with their neural Colorize filter.
They also requested that we play with the proportions of the headline and body text, and that we switch out the photos on the 2nd and 4th panels. For the second, ‘People Centric’ panel, I opted to switch from a photo of a high five, to a photo of a fist bump, which proved to be a satisfactory pivot; for the ‘Passionate’ panel, they requested something that might resonate more with the predominantly masculine demographic of their employees – namely, a dramatic completion during a football game. They were pleased with the new image.
This was a fun opportunity to work on a large-scale project that will be seen on a daily basis by workers across the country. I’ll come back and update this post once I have some photos of the panels installed IRL.
